Frequently asked questions
Best practice for drying clothes in a tumble dryer
1. Use an extra spin cycle for efficient tumble drying
Garments that are damp will dry quicker in a tumble dryer. To get extra moisture out of garments before tumble drying, you can use an extra spin cycle on your washing machine.
2. Clean your machine
Over time tumble dryers can get a build up of lint in the filter, or vent hose depending on which type of dryer you have. It's good to clean this regularly and ensure all lint and debris is removed. This will ensure your machine is drying items in the most efficient way.
3. Know your fabric
Some fabrics will take longer to dry than others. When drying different fabrics, it's a good idea to separate the different fabric types and dry them together. Whilst this means your items will dry more efficiently, this also helps to avoid over-drying some items.
4. Don't overload your dryer
Packing the drum too tightly will usually result in your garments not drying evenly, or even at all. Each tumble dryer has a maximum load capacity, this is usually in the range of 7-9 kilograms. Check your machine for the exact capacity to ensure you are not overloading.
Can I override the door lock on my washing machine?
In the event that you need to access the locked door, it's advised to switch the power off at the mains switch, wait for a minute, then switch it back on again. The door lock should then disable once switching the machine back on.
Should this not work, seek advice directly from your manufacturer.
Does my washing machine and tumble dryer take a lot of power to run?
The diagram will typically look like the one below, and will have a black indicator to state how energy efficient the model is. Anything in green (A-C) is typically the most energy efficient, and anything lower is typically less so.
It's also good to note that most energy providers offer off-peak lower rates. For example, some providers will offer a lower rate during 9pm-11pm each night. Check directly with your energy provider to find out if and when they offer this.
How should I care for my washing machine?
1. Leave your washing machine door open after a cycle
Sometimes washing machines can begin to develop a damp smell if the drum has not been left to air dry after a cycle. Its best to leave your door open for a few hours after you have finished a wash.
2. Clean your machine
Cleaning your machine is beneficial to remove bacteria that has built up over time. Some machines may come with a self-cleaning function, but if it doesn't, you may be able to purchase a washing machine cleaner that you can add into your machine and run with a certain wash cycle.
3. Clean your detergent drawer
It's advised to clean your detergent drawer after each wash cycle. A simple wipe with a damp or wet cloth should be sufficient enough to prevent any bacteria or residue building up.
4. Make sure your machine is level
A machine that isn't level can vibrate and move and potentially cause damage to the floor beneath it.
5. Make sure you're using the right amount of detergent
Using too much detergent or any washing agents can sometimes leave residue on garments. Make sure to measure out the correct amount, and if you're unsure, check the suggested measurements that feature on the container of the detergent.
How should I care for the detergent drawer?
It's suggested to wipe your drawer down after each wash with a damp or wet cloth. After a few washes detergent and moisture can start to build up, and over time may turn to mould if left unattended.
Keeping your tumble dryer in the best condition
The machine can get hot while in use, so it's good to leave the door open for a short while once you have finished using it to allow for it to cool down.2. Clean your machine
Over time tumble dryers can get a build up of lint in the filter, or vent hose depending on which type of dryer you have. It's good to clean this regularly and ensure all lint and debris is removed.3. Make sure your dryer is level
A dryer that isn't level can vibrate and move and potentially cause damage to the floor beneath it. Even after installation, the feet height can change, so it's good to check this on a regular basis.
Top tips for using your washing machine
1. Separate colours before adding them to wash cycles
Different coloured fabrics can sometimes bleed their coloured dye when they come into contact with water. If you wash your lights with your darks, or your lights with brightly coloured items, there's possibility that these colours may bleed and leave your lights darker, or a different colour than expected.
2. Check the labels on your garments
Some garments will have suggested washing directions, whether that is washing them at a certain temperature, or hand washing only. It's best to always check these labels before you put anything in to the wash.
3. Leave your washing machine door open after a cycle
Sometimes washing machines can begin to develop a damp smell if the drum has not been left to air dry after a cycle. Its best to leave your door open for a few hours after you have finished a wash.
4. Don't overload your washing machine
Packing the washing machine drum too tightly will usually result in your garments not being washed thoroughly, or even having residue on them. Each washing machine has a maximum load capacity, this is usually in the range of 7-12 kilograms. Check your washing machine for the exact capacity to ensure you are not overloading your machine.
5. Clean your machine
Cleaning your machine is beneficial to remove bacteria that has built up over time. Some machines may come with a self-cleaning function, but if it doesn't, you may be able to purchase a washing machine cleaner that you can add into your machine and run with a certain wash cycle.
6. Clean your detergent drawer
It's advised to clean your detergent drawer after each wash cycle. A simple wipe with a damp or wet cloth should be sufficient enough to prevent any bacteria or residue building up.
